Old Tavernier Restaurant & Lounge

My family went for Thanksgiving dinner this year, and it was the best Thanksgiving dinner we’ve had at a restaurant … I think ever? Most of us didn’t order the turkey or anything, but those who did enjoyed it. The food was high quality and wasn’t rushed. None of our plates were dry or cold when they got to us. Every dish seemed like it had gotten the attention it deserved.

A little above average and price I would say it's more of a tourist trap with the snowbirds coming as opposed to locals I'll let you decide it's my second time here but first for a big expensive dinner with friends. The alcoholic beverages are the best part of the visit, great red wine forgot which I had, some local vodka cocktails and 2 espresso Martini's. I did get a hard Olive pit in the salad and don't recommend the veal dish.

We went here 3 times out of our 6 day trip. We loved the food and the staff!!! Our two waitresses were extremely friendly and remembered us and made us feel at home. The good was excellent. We tried a little bit of everything. Their espresso martini is amazing and highly recommended. I suggest sitting in the dining area as the bar area can be loud. Reservations are recommended but we didn't get them 1 night and only waited a few mins.

What is happening here? Went to the bar to get a drink and the could not get any service. The bartender has not idea what hospitality means and was completely overwhelmed. The hostess told us it would be 20 minutes for a table. When we went back up after 20 minutes she said it would be 20 more minutes. This restaurants needs more training and a manager that understands how to take care of guests.

After many years in The Keys we finally came to this place a lot of people seem to praise. What a unique experience! We sat outside waiting to be seated until a table opened up inside only to find out it was the noisiest place imaginable, the median age of the patrons was 80yo and they were all shouting. It was so unbearably loud inside that we had to ask to get back to our table outside. The service was such a mess that by that time we already talked to at least 4 servers/managers(?) and in a few minutes we got 7 glasses of water in the table (for a party of 3!) one of us asked "no ice" and of course all 7 glasses had ice... We were presented with the specials, we placed an order, the salad/soup came soon after that but then we had to wait over 1hr to get the entrees! The place was packed, the food was OK and prices were crazy high. It's clear that improving the lousy service won't bring them more money so they just don't care at all about the experience they provide. Based on the avg age of the patrons it would not surprise me that they might have lost a few of them between the apps and the entrees so they may consider improving the service just to mitigate that risk if nothing else...
